5 Of The Best 4th of July Fireworks Shows In San Diego

This year the States are turning 238 years old.

On July 4, 1776, we broke the chains of Britain’s Monarchy and established Democracy with a vision to spread freedom “sea to shining sea”.  Every day thousands flock to the U.S. of A’s shores from their native lands to realize the American Dream.  The U.S.A. gives us many reasons to celebrate it’s birth, and as we remember those, let’s partake in the tradition of America’s 4th of July: Barbecue and Fireworks.

For the barbecue you’re on your own, but I am going to make it easy for you to choose a great spot for those fireworks.  Listed below are San Diego’s 5 best places to enjoy Independence Day this year.

# 5 Rancho Penasquitos Annual Community Fireworks Show

And other local High Schools including Poway and Rancho Bernardo

This community show is a great bonus that sees a lot of local action but is open to the public.  The cool thing about this display is that it takes place on the 3rd of July at Westview High School , so there is no reason to miss out on another great locale on the 4th.  Additionally, high schools around the area put on their own community shows, but you won’t be able to catch those until the 4th of July.

Fireworks: 9:00 pm

# 4 Coronado Celebration

The beautiful Coronado Island puts on a great all day affair.  These festivities kick off with a parade from Crown City down Orange Avenue and then a concert at Spreckels Park, rounding off with a glorious Glorietta Bay show.

Fireworks: 9:00 pm

# 3 San Diego County Fair

There is so much to do at the San Diego County Fair, that it’s best to make this an all day extravaganza.  There is a parade, concerts, delicious food and spectacular fireworks to end the night in blazing colors.

Fireworks: 9:00 pm

# 2 San Diego’s Fine Beaches

Oceanside, Camp Pendelton, Mission Bay

What’s better than spending a summer day at a San Diego beach and then laying back for the fireworks?  Not much.  Free and fun, this is the quintessential San Diego 4th of July experience.

# 1 Big Bay Boom

Chere Amie Yacht Charters, San Diego Maritime Museum, Hornblower, Harbor Excursions

The number one spot goes to the coveted experience of actually being on the water as the fireworks go off!  Barges placed around the Bay go off simultaneously in 4 amazingly identical advanced pyrotechnic shows.  Watch the sky in erupt sparkles in different directions and the mirroring reflection on the water.

Fireworks: 9:00 pm – 9:30 pm
